Lone Wolf & Cub

The film Shogun Assassin was created from the Japanese Lone Wolf and Cub films, which in turn were based on a long-running and hugely popular Manga of the same name.

The bookes were created by writer Kazuo Koike and artist Goseki Kojima and were first published in 1970. If you have watched Shogun Assassin or the Lone Wolf and Cub films the you will already know that the story follows Ogami Ittō, the Shogun’s executioner, and his son who are forced to take the path of the assassin, after being falsly disgraced by a rival clan.

The epic story charts their adventures, as they seek to exact their revenge on the Yagyū clan.

The books brings historical detail, complex plots, and moments of brutal voilence to create a stunning re-telling okugawa era Japan.

The books have sold in their millions since their release, and are currently available in 28 volumes and can mostly be found for decent prices online. Sadly some of the volumes are more tricky to find than others, but with outlets like Amazon and Abe Books you can usually track down a copy.
